This design, used in a packing case assembly, consists of a five ring set; male radial ring,
and a tangent cut ring as shown. The wedge packing set is installed facing the point of
highest pressure. It is used to seal the purge connection and also to prevent leakage of gas
along the rod when the compressor is shut down under the load.
